Spring & Summer Residencies
The Field Station’s Spring & Summer Residencies take place under endless daylight. Thanks to the rotating and tilted axis of our planet, on Ingøy there is sunlight 24/7 from April to September, creating ever-changing burning sunsets and sunrises throughout the day and night.
Between 14 May – 29 July, get inspired by the spellbinding golden hour of the unique natural phenomenon of the Midnight Sun as it illuminates the islands stark and dramatic landscape at 00:00.
Whether you need time for reflection and consolidation, time for research, time for re-thinking and clarification, time for visioning and dreaming, time for resting and re-gathering, time for focused work together or individually, The Field Station’s approach, atmosphere and unique natural environment makes it all possible.
Staying at The Field Station means embracing a simpler way of living: fires and stoves are lit and tended to, water is collected from the mountain stream, food is prepared and eaten together. On the flip side, there is plenty of high-speed internet access, should you need it.
Artists can also enjoy a range of other activities on the island such as nature walks (over 100 different species of birds), fishing trips, wood-burning saunas, mountain hikes, midnight sun bonfires, cycling and cloudberry picking.
“Night was coming on again; the sun just dipped into the sea and rose again, red, refreshed, as if it had been down to drink. I could feel more strangely on those nights than anyone would believe.”
- Pan by Knut Hamsun (1894)
Funded Residencies
The Field Station offers funded Spring & Summer Residencies to individual and groups of artists working in all disciplines, at all career levels and from across the globe. These opportunities are awarded following an open call and application process.
Our fully-funded residency programme includes all accommodation, workspace, food & drink, and a generous weekly stipend to provide artists with the time, space, freedom and financial support to work, reflect, research, rest, recuperate; whatever is needed. The time and space is yours.
The duration of the residencies are flexible; however, we recommend a minimum stay of 1 week and a maximum stay of 8 weeks.
Independently-funded Residencies
The Field Station also provides independently-funded Spring & Summer Residencies that provide opportunities for artists with their own funding, such as from academic institutions, public funding or foundations. We also work with individual artists to help them secure funding.
Independently-funded residencies take place throughout the year. Artists of all disciplines and backgrounds are welcome and that includes writers, producers, directors, curators, academics and those working in any creative field.
The duration of the redencies are flexible, however, we recommend a minimum stay of 1 week and a maximum stay of 8 weeks.
